FunLake.com FunLake.com 107The Trails of Lake of the Ozarks State ParkWith 13 trails ranging from one mile to 13.5 miles long, Missouri%u2019s largest state park (17.441 acres) attracts hikers, from casual strollers to serious trekkers. The best way to start a hike is to stop by the Trail Center on Highway 134 for information about the trails and their features. The park office also has trail maps available. The park has a trail information line, (573) 346-4516, to alert visitors if a trail has been closed temporarily. All of the park%u2019s trails are open to the public. Entrance signs identify each trailhead and intersections are marked with colored directional arrows. The trail map identifies which trails are also open to mountain bikes and equestrian riders. It is recommended that you always have a trail map before heading out for your hike. Bluestem Knoll TrailA moderate three-quarter-mile loop through oak woodlands and native grasslands provides a glimpse of Missouri%u2019s Ozark landscape from 200 years ago. Coakley Hollow TrailThis one mile, self-guiding, interpretive trail meanders through one of the most ecologically diverse areas in the park. This trail, located in the Ozark Caverns area, may be closed during evening hours and in the off season. Call the visitor center at 573-346-2500 to see if the area is open. Fawn%u2019s Ridge TrailHikers enjoy this easy, two-mile wildlife road that winds along the side of a wooded ridge and circles a hilltop. It%u2019s not unusual to see early-morning songbirds and, as the name suggests, white-tailed deer. The first half mile of the trail is accessible to people with disabilities or families with small children in strollers. Honey Run TrailApproximately nine miles of secluded singletrack bike/hiking trail is nestled quietly into the Ozark wilderness. Some sections are very sensitive to damage during wet conditions, so please excercise discretion and check on trail conditions before riding. Lake View Bend TrailA one-and-a-half-mile trail along the base of steep cliffs provides a wonderful water view and puts on a spectacular show of spring wildflowers. Lake TrailExperience a one and a half-mile trail through a peaceful Ozark setting. Rocky Top TrailThe first loop of this moderate, two mile figure-eight trail travels through one of the largest glades in the park, through native Ozark woodlands, and then back along a pretty Lake cove. The second loop includes an overlook on a towering bluff on Lake of the Ozarks. Shady Ridge TrailThis one mile, one way, trail meanders along the Lake shore. Hidden SpringsThe two-and-a-half-mile loop trail, used by hikers and equestrians, goes through native Missouri woodlands to bluff tops above the Lake. Depending on the season, users may see flowering dogwoods or hear pileated woodpeckers. In addition to the abundant natural history in this area, the trail also passes near a small family cemetery. Trail of Four WindsHikers, bicyclists and equestrians share this 13.5-mile trail that takes visitors through some of the most scenic and challenging landscapes in the park. The trail winds through forests, open grasslands and bottomland hardwoods and takes visitors along the Lake and past an unusual rock formation. A wooden boardwalk leads to an overlook that provides a panoramic view of the forested valley below. White Oak TrailThis one mile loop is a shady trail that runs along a ridge top where various woodland animals, such as northern fence lizards, three-toed box turtles and eastern chipmunks, are often spotted. Woodland TrailThis moderate three and a quarter-mile hiking trail, that starts behind the Trail Center, meanders through the Patterson Hollow Wild Area. Hikers will see diverse habitats, including old homesteaders%u2019 fields, dense oak and hickory forests, dry streambeds, spring-fed seeps, nearly barren ridge tops and lush ravines.
